The brand was founded in 2020 by Po Chen, a former New York Art Director who returned to Hong Kong to raise her family. The idea sparked from a moment of playful curiosity: her kids loved the chewy, joyful texture of bubble tea, while her trainer insisted on functional nutrition. She had a "what if" moment—what if a drink could hide ancient wisdom and true nourishment inside a moment of pure, joyful indulgence?

It launched as the first concept of her sustainable lifestyle platform, Po House, designed as an invitation to explore a better way for both ourselves and the planet. To bring this culinary puzzle to life, she collaborated with renowned plant-based chef Peggy Chan and sourced artisanal teas from Nana Chan of Teakha, blending culinary artistry with a sense of wonder.

Mother Pearl is not just another bubble tea shop; it is a portal for self-repairing exploration. The brand avoids the boring lectures of standard health trends, choosing instead to spark curiosity through radical transparency and three core practices:

Alchemy from Scratch: Instead of hidden powders and synthetic syrups, every element is made in-house. Guests are invited to discover the house-crafted tapioca pearls.

The Power of the Unexpected: The menu challenges expectations by blending low-GI sweeteners (coconut nectar, monk fruit) and vibrant superfoods (turmeric, activated charcoal). It weaves in elements inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), turning ancient remedies into modern sensory discoveries.

The Infinite Loop: Curiosity extends to the planet. The nutrient-dense pulp leftover from making nut milks is creatively upcycled into crackers, flour, and experimental dishes—proving that nothing is wasted when you look at ingredients with imagination.

The Visual Identity: With its signature "pearl-shaped" lights and deep, grounding olive green facade, the space acts as a physical portal—stepping inside is a transition from the chaotic streets of Hong Kong into a space of quiet intrigue.
