About Yuanjia Law

Beijing Yuanjia Law Firm was established in 2006 with the approval of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice. Its head office is in the Beijing CBD, and it practices in traffic-accident disputes, marriage and family matters, and property management, alongside corporate advisory work. The Yuanjia International Family Law Team handles China-connected cross-border family matters for overseas clients: divorce and court mediation in China, division of China property, equity and accounts, child custody and support, recognition of foreign divorce judgments, evidence, service and authorisation work, and cross-border inheritance. The team is built around mediation. A mediation centre led by retired judges with more than 30 years of experience sits alongside a dedicated moot court used for pre-hearing preparation, so complex matters are rehearsed before they are heard. Nine lawyers work on the files themselves. Their record includes 300+ cases involving amounts over RMB 100 million and 4,100+ cases over RMB 10 million, more than 100,000 clients served, and assets with a total value above RMB 590 billion handled. Two things distinguish the practice. First, mediation first, litigation ready: the team settles where a settlement is genuinely available and litigates where it is not, without treating court as the goal. Second, dual-jurisdiction document work: notarisation, legalisation, Apostille, translation and overseas service are planned as part of the case theory, not added at the end. The team accepts only matters with a China connection. Wherever a party, an asset, a document or an enforcement step touches China, that is where this team can act. Industry Problems Addressed

Legal Services

In marriage and family disputes, clients struggle to handle emotional conflict, children, property, and cross-border legal issues at the same time, and litigation is not always the best solution.

Impact: The loss is not a fee — it is a postponement of the outcome, and time compounds cost in three ways. 1. Timeline loss. A contested cross-border matter commonly takes 18 to 24 months, not the 6 to 12 months a domestic divorce would take, because service, authentication and recognition run in sequence rather than in parallel. 2. Asset loss. Where only one spouse can reach the asset, that spouse may sell, transfer, mortgage or simply keep it, and the other side is left holding a judgment rather than an asset. 3. Re-do cost. Where a judgment is obtained in a jurisdiction that will not be recognised, the work is duplicated: a second filing, a second set of fees and a second set of translations. The practical consequence is that the same fact pattern produces very different financial outcomes depending on whether the cross-border steps were planned at the outset or discovered at enforcement.
