Application:
1.Torpedo Power Source
Unlike zinc-silver batteries used in large, high-speed, guided torpedoes, Mg/AgCl batteries are more commonly used in lightweight anti-submarine torpedoes, aerial torpedoes, or as auxiliary power units for certain torpedoes. Their characteristic is that they require no preparation before launch and automatically activate the moment the torpedo enters the water, providing propulsion.
2.Sonar Buoys
Sonar buoys deployed by aircraft or ships need to start functioning immediately upon hitting the water. Mg/AgCl batteries can automatically activate upon water contact and supply power to the buoy's transmitter and sonar transducer, with a lifespan from tens of minutes to several hours, perfectly meeting the needs of one-time tactical reconnaissance missions.
3.Underwater Rescue Beacons
Black Box: The underwater locator beacon attached to an aircraft's flight recorder (black box) is a typical application of Mg/AgCl batteries. The battery can also operate in freshwater (with special design). Once submerged, the USLD is activated, continuously transmitting acoustic signals at 37.5 kHz for about 30 days, providing positioning information for rescue teams. Its extremely long dry storage life ensures instant reliability in the event of an accident.
4.Maritime Safety Equipment
Certain EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) or devices on lifeboats automatically start upon contact with seawater and also use this type of battery.
5.Oceanographic Buoys/Disposable Probes
Used for short-term, single-use oceanographic investigations. For example, discardable CTD profilers for measuring temperature, salinity, and depth of specific water layers, where the battery activates and powers the device during deployment, and the device is discarded after data upload. Its maintenance-free and long-term storage capability is ideal for such 'use-and-dispose' scenarios.
6.Geophysical Exploration
Used as short-term power sources for seafloor seismometers or acoustic transmitters in marine seismic surveys.
7.Downhole tools
In the oil and gas industry, these are used for certain one-time well perforation or logging tools. After the tool is lowered to a specific depth in the well, the battery is activated by injecting an electrolyte, providing a one-time high-power pulse to the actuator. Emergency power supply: Provides power for certain underwater valves or safety devices that need to be activated in emergency situations.
